Image Capture Software

Image Capture Software, also called Frame Grabbers, are the programs we use to record images in the stop motion animation process. The program we use in class, iStopmotion by Boinx, is for Mac OSX only and many of you have been asking about software available for the PC. I have not used anything other than iStopmotion but at stopmotionworks.com you can find an overview of currently available programs for Mac and PC. There are quite a few programs listed and they range in price from free to $29 and up ($19 to $29 seems to be a common price point).

When looking for the right software for you two prime considerations are your computers’ video card and the type of camera you would use (USB web cam, DV Video Camera, Analog Video Camera, Digital Still Camera, etc.).

Note: One of the programs listed, Anasazai (for the PC) is freeware… but it will only work with USB web cameras & analog video cameras.
